Movement: Why Walking Is Underrated

Walking is the simplest thing you can do for your health. It needs no equipment, no membership and nothing more than the clothes you're already wearing.

Walking asks almost nothing of you

You can do it on the way to somewhere you were going anyway. It costs nothing and takes no particular fitness to start.

What you get from it

Physically, it's the backbone of your daily movement. Most people who get anywhere near forty-five to sixty minutes a day get there by walking rather than anything more complicated.

A walk is also one of the few stretches of a day with nothing else asking for your attention. Most people come back from a walk feeling better than when they set off.

It's sociable, too. Walking is the only exercise you can hold a proper conversation through. That makes it something you look forward to rather than something to get done.

Remember

If you want to change one thing to improve your health today, walk more.

General information, not medical advice. If you've an existing condition or you're unsure about starting something new, speak to a qualified professional first.
