Movement: Fitting It Into a Real Day
Most people who say they haven't got time to move aren't wrong about being busy. They're wrong about where the time would have to come from.
The time is already in your day
An hour of movement sounds like an hour you'd have to do all at once. It almost never is. It's ten minutes walking to a meeting, five on the stairs, and a walk to lunch.
None of that is time you had to clear. It's time you already had, spent differently.
The shift in thinking
Stop asking when you'll fit movement in. Start asking what you're already doing that could happen on your feet. A phone call. A conversation with someone at work. Getting somewhere fifteen minutes away.
The clearest example is the gap between things. Ten minutes before a meeting, or waiting for someone in the car. Most of it gets spent sitting with a phone. Spend it walking instead.
Worth trying this week
- Walk between meetings rather than taking the shortest way there.
- Take the call on your feet, or outside.
- Go and get lunch instead of having it delivered.
- Walk while you wait, instead of sitting down with your phone.
Movement doesn't need a slot in your diary. It needs you to notice the time you've already got.
