Sleep: How Much Do You Actually Need?
Most adults need seven to nine hours a night.
7 to 9 hours a night
That's a range, not a target to beat. How much you need is different for everyone. Some people sit comfortably at seven, others need closer to nine.
Regularly getting under six is where the problems start. You'll notice it first in your energy and your appetite, then in everything you had planned for that week.
How to tell where you sit
The first hour after waking tells you most of what you need to know. If you're up and ready to go, you're getting enough. If you need caffeine before you can function, you probably aren't.
Somewhere between seven and nine hours, most nights.
General information, not medical advice. If you've an existing condition or you're unsure about starting something new, speak to a qualified professional first.
