Consistency: What Does Consistency Actually Mean?
Consistency means showing up most of the time, over a long time. It doesn't mean doing everything perfectly, every single day.
Consistent, not perfect
There's no such thing as a perfect week. Work gets busy, people get sick, plans change. Some variation is fine and always will be.
What you want is a routine that bends instead of breaking. A week where you hit two of your three planned sessions is still a consistent week.
Where most routines go wrong
The most common reason a routine ends is aiming for a perfect week. Something gets missed and the week feels ruined. From there it's easier to give up than carry on.
One missed session doesn't undo any of the work you've already done.
Floors, not ceilings
A simple way to build consistency is to set a floor. A floor is something you enjoy enough, and that's small enough, that you'd get it done no matter how the day went. A fifteen-minute walk. One twenty-minute session. Protein at breakfast.
Do more whenever you feel like it. The floor is the part that always happens.
Aim for a routine that bends without breaking. Showing up most of the time is what adds up.
